The Chronograph

Sale price$1,650.00 USD

The TRASKA Chronograph Ref. 10251 offers an audacious yet respectful challenge to watchmaking convention. Two symmetrical subdials make use of transparent discs to announce elapsed minutes (left) and running seconds (right) without the need for hands. Despite the relatively thick movement within it, the case is remarkably svelte, with a sensual flourish provided by the concave cutouts on its flanks. An otherwise sporty aesthetic, emphasized by the tungsten tachymeter bezel, is offset by the bold square pushers that control the chronograph function. Protected by our signature hardening process and waterproof to 75 meters, this chronograph is designed to be used, not merely admired.

HARDENED STEEL

All of our watches are made from 316L surgical-grade stainless steel. This typically measures 200HV on the Vickers hardness scale; however, after our signature hardening treatment is applied, we are able to achieve a hardness rating of almost 1200HV. With this additional protection against the typical scratches and swirls that otherwise occur all too often during the rigors of everyday life, you can wear our watches without worry, using them like the robust tools they’re intended to be.

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL

Measuring 9/10 on the Mohs hardness scale, the TRASKA Chronograph’s synthetic sapphire crystal is virtually impervious to scratches. Colloquially referred to as a “box style” crystal, its design is reminiscent of the plexiglass crystals that graced watches from a bygone era. This particular sapphire crystal also boasts a thick layer of clear anti-reflective coating on the underside — eliminating glare for easy reading even under direct sunlight.

THE CASE

Cut from 316L stainless steel and featuring the proprietary hardening treatment for which TRASKA has become known, the Chronograph challenges our signature minimalism while upholding the utilitarian spirit of our earlier models. Instead of a chamfer, the upper portion of the midcase features polished concave cutouts; a subtle flourish to be sure, but one that shines upon repeated inspection. Echoed on the lower portion of the bezel, the cutouts form a perfect semicircle, which, like the best architecture, delights and satisfies even when not consciously noticed. Designed to be worn without fear, the TRASKA Chronograph is water resistant to 75 meters.

THE DIAL

Two transparent rotating discs dominate the dial — minutes on the left, seconds on the right. Stationary lines, printed in red, replace the need for hands. The numerals on the discs float over the lines to reveal minutes elapsed or running seconds at a glance. The minute subdial is linked to the Chronograph function, while the second subdial will begin rotating as soon as the mainspring is wound.

The faceted hour indexes are meticulously filled with Grade A Swiss Made BGW9 Super-LumiNova and then hand-applied with maximum precision. Placed strategically at the 6-hour position, a polished frame surrounds the color-matched date window.

THE SUBDIALS

Situated on the right of the dial, the seconds subdial is in constant motion and will begin rotating as soon as the movement is charged. To the left, the minutes subdial is anchored to the chronograph function. When the start pusher is pressed, the disk will begin recording minutes passed up to a maximum of 30 minutes.

THE HANDS

The multi-faceted diamond-cut hands slope up on either side and then taper off to a flat plane with brushed finishing, creating a subtle visual effect that is pleasing even when not consciously registered. Filled with Swiss Made BGW9 Grade A Super-LumiNova, the strong luminescence makes for easy reading even in dim light.

THE CHRONOGRAPH PUSHERS

Two rectangular pushers balance the sporty DNA of the Chronograph with a more refined aesthetic that pleases the eye when taken in alongside the symmetrical subdials. The Start/Stop Button near the 2-hour position activates the chronograph function when pressed, and stops it when pressed again. The Reset button below returns the red chronograph seconds hand and the minute subdial to their original position.

THE TACHYMETER BEZEL

The use of tungsten for the bezel insert creates visual interest while upholding TRASKA’s criteria for formidable hardness — as a common element in ballistics, cutting tools, and aerospace technology, it is prized for its scratch-resistant qualities. A typical tachymeter bezel measures speed from 60 to 400 units per hour. Designed for everyday as well as sporting use, the TRASKA Chronograph is optimized for speeds between 50 and 200 units per hour, a more likely scenario to be encountered in daily life.

THE CROWN

The coin-edged crown with embossed logo screws down snugly and smoothly into the side of the Chronograph's hermetic case thanks to a decoupling mechanism that prevents it from winding the movement while being screwed down. A carefully engineered triple gasket system helps to uphold the integrity of the75-meter depth rating.

THE MOVEMENT

The TRASKA Chronograph is powered by the Japanese-made TMI NE86 automatic movement. Amidst fierce competition for chronograph movements, TMI revealed itself as the only viable option for three key reasons.

The first is thickness. The NE86 is 0.3mm thinner than the comparable Swiss chronograph movements.

Secondly, unlike the aforementioned Swiss movements, the NE86 uses a column wheel, a small, vertically oriented wheel with precisely machined pillars or columns around the edges. When the pusher is pressed, a lever advances the column wheel one step. The result is a smoother pusher feel with cleaner engagement and more precise sequencing of the start, stop, and reset functions.

Finally, the NE86 features a vertical clutch that engages the chronograph by pressing two discs together along the same axis — one connected to the running gear train and the other to the seconds wheel. As there is no need for gears to mesh with the chronograph function, and engagement occurs without significant impact, the chronograph can run continuously with minimum damage.

All of our movements are regulated in four positions for enhanced timekeeping tolerances. This process involves manually adjusting the length of the mechanical movement’s hairspring, fine-tuning it to keep even better time than what its manufacturer advertises. After regulation in four positions, the NE 86 series will typically run between -10 to +20 seconds a day and maintain power for 45 hours when fully wound.

THE BRACELET

Forged from 316L stainless steel and tapering from 21mm to 16mm, the bracelet’s solid and fully articulating links echo designs from the Swiss bracelet purveyor Gay Frères. Made with a rigorous lifestyle in mind, the robust bracelet has undergone the same proprietary hardening process as the case. Precisely machined from stainless steel, both the buckle and individual links exhibit polished chamfers on their sides. The inside of the clasp is painstakingly hand polished with a perlage finish, because even the smallest of details matter. Quick-release spring bars make it easy to remove the bracelet for strap changes, while the buckle’s six micro-adjustments and the removable links' flat head screws allow the bracelet to be sized to your exact liking with ease.

THE QUICK-ADJUST CLASP

Effortlessly adjust the size of your bracelet and get the perfect fit at all times thanks to our tool-less micro-adjustable buckle. With six different positions spaced 1.35mm apart, you can make your bracelet incrementally smaller or larger with the push of a button. No screwdrivers. No screws. No frustration.

TRAVEL CASE

The newest version of the TRASKA travel case is constructed from genuine leather and stays true to the utilitarian nature of the brand. We value form, but not at the expense of function. Even when traveling light is a necessity, this leather pouch is small enough to go with you and ensure the safety of your watch.
