Seafarer Charcoal Black

Sale price$665.00 USD

Performing as impeccably 150 meters under the sea as it would on dry land, the Seafarer (Ref. 5223) packs modern tech within a vintage-inspired frame. An homage to the dual-crown dive watches of the ‘50s and ‘60s, this is history, re-engineered for the choppy waters of today.

HARDENED STEEL

All of our watches are made from 316L surgical-grade stainless steel. This typically measures 200HV on the Vickers hardness scale; however, after our signature hardening treatment is applied, we are able to achieve a hardness rating of almost 1200HV. With this additional protection against the typical scratches and swirls that otherwise occur all too often during the rigors of everyday life, you can wear our watches without worry, using them like the robust tools they’re intended to be.

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL

Cut from synthetic sapphire and measuring 9/10 on the Mohs hardness scale, the Seafarer’s crystal is virtually impervious to scratches. Colloquially referred to as a “box style” crystal, its design is reminiscent of the plexiglass crystals that graced watches from a bygone era. This particular sapphire crystal also boasts a thick layer of clear anti-reflective coating on the underside — eliminating glare for easy reading even under direct sunlight.

THE DIAL

The Seafarer’s semi-matte dial draws inspiration from the no-nonsense utilitarian aesthetic found on iconic dive watches from the 50s and 60s. Thanks to three-dimensional indices hewn from BGW9 SuperLumi-Nova, the printed hour markers protrude proudly from the dial for both enhanced visual interest as well as superior luminescence in dark environments.

THE HANDS

The diamond-cut hands are milled from a solid block of brass and then meticulously polished. After that, they are painted white for maximum legibility both below and underneath the surface. Finally, they are filled with the same Swiss Made BGW9 luminescent material used in the bezel and on the dial's applied indices.

THE CASE

Water resistant to 150 meters and hewn from a solid block of 316L stainless steel, the Seafarer’s case is treated with TRASKA’s signature hardening process to enhance its resilience to scratches and scuffs. Polished chamfers delineate the transition from brushed to polished finishes, with visual interest further stimulated by the ever so slightly convex nature of the mirror polished mid-case.

INTERNAL BEZEL

The bidirectional rotating bezel found underneath the sapphire crystal functions as a minute timer — just rotate the 2 o'clock crown until the circular marker is aligned with the minute hand. As the minute hand advances, the circular pip remains in the same position and a quick glance reveals how many minutes have elapsed since the setting of the timer.

EXTERNAL BEZEL

Complementary brushing techniques work in harmony to give the fixed stainless steel bezel an even balance of splendor and restraint. Sunburst brushing on the top gently teases the eye, while a mirror polished chamfer on its outermost perimeter adds just the right amount of glitz.

INTERNAL BEZEL CROWN

Sharing a similar aesthetic with the time setting crown, the screw-down crown at the 2 hour position operates a bi-directional rotating internal bezel that can be used as a minute timer. In a nod to its vintage predecessors, the iconic grid pattern commonly found on 60s super compressor dive watches is embossed on its exterior.

THE CROWN

The screw-down crown used for setting the time at the 4-hour position exhibits a high-polished chamfer separating the coin-edged portion from the embossed TRASKA logo on the outermost surface. Thanks to a decoupling mechanism that prevents the crown from winding the movement while being screwed down, the crown rotates into its locked position with ease.

THE MOVEMENT

Automatically wound by the motion of the wearer, the Japanese Made Miyota 9039 caliber oscillates at 28,800 beats per hour and will keep on ticking for decades. A 24 jeweled, two step, hand-windable movement with hacking, the 9039 is a true no-date movement. Introduced by the Japanese firm as an alternative to the Swiss Made ETA-2824, one could argue that the high-beat 9039 caliber is actually technologically superior to its Swiss counterpart thanks to its 42 hour power reserve and slimmer profile.

All of our movements are regulated in four positions for enhanced timekeeping tolerances. This process involves manually adjusting the length of the mechanical movement’s hairspring, fine-tuning it to keep even better time than what their manufacturer advertises. After regulation in four positions, the 9 series will typically run between -10 to +20 seconds a day.

THE BRACELET

Forged from 316L stainless steel and tapering from 20mm to 16mm, the bracelet’s solid and fully articulating links echo designs from the Swiss bracelet purveyor Gay Frères. Made with a rigorous lifestyle in mind, the robust bracelet has undergone the same proprietary hardening process as the case. Precisely machined from stainless steel, the buckle exhibits polished chamfers on either side. The inside of the clasp is painstakingly hand polished with a perlage finish — because even the smallest of details matter. The buckle’s six micro-adjustments and the removable links' large flat head screws allow the bracelet to be sized to your exact liking with ease.

QUICK-ADJUST CLASP

Effortlessly adjust the size of your bracelet and get the perfect fit at all times thanks to our tool-less micro-adjustable buckle. With six different positions spaced 1.35mm apart, you can make your bracelet incrementally smaller or larger with the push of a button. No screwdrivers. No screws. No frustration. Oh, and it includes two additional half-links to ensure a comfortable fit for every wrist!

TRAVEL CASE

Our genuine leather travel case stays true to the utilitarian nature of the TRASKA brand. We value form; but not at the expense of function. Even when traveling light is a necessity, this leather pouch is small enough to go with you and ensure the safety of your timepiece. This isn’t packaging that will gather dust in the closet — it’s an elegant yet practical accessory you’ll want to travel with wherever you go.

Gorgeous watch

"The Seafarer is my second Traska. I own a midnight blue Summiteer, as well. They are, hands down, my two favorite watches in the weekly rotation and I cannot wait for the new Venturer to be released."

A full broadside of love

"So many things to love with this watch. The bracelet, with an excellent clasp and on-the-fly micro adjustment, female end links, and a 20 -> 16 taper. The case is extraordinary slim. Movement is so smooth to wind, screw-down crown execution is top notch. No QC issues. Excellent finish. I was looking for a compressor diver, and this is a great such design. Clearly inspired by e. g. Longines legendary watch, but still its own thing. Hands, indices, all well proportioned. It wear a bit smaller than the dimensions suggest, due to the relatively small dial. Highly recommended! Keep up the great work Jon."

Zero regrets, punches WAY above its price.

"I purchased the last version of the seafarer in burnt orange 1 year ago. I was having a daughter and wanted something pink/pinkish to commemorate that. I have been wearing this watch almost every single day since I purchased it, it still looks brand new. I wear it at the beach, to the lake, to the pool, daily toddler care, work, etc… I’m not exaggerating when I said I wore it almost every single day. It is by far the most comfortable watch I own, I just need to get my hands on a quick adjust bracelet since I purchased mine before it was available. I have told all my watch buddies they need a Traska and they have been very impressed with mine. My only slight complaint is that the internal bezel is a little too easy to turn so it can move while wearing it. It does not happen often , in fact I’d say it’s more on the rare side but it still does happen. If you are OCD about your bezel always being at 12 then I could see it annoying you. If you are looking at buying a Traska just buy it, you will love it."

"Gift to my brother in law. Very well received."

Perfect everyday.

"Since I bought this watch, I haven’t take it off, went on a family vacation to the beach and it was excellent, not a problem with jumping in the pool and micro adjustment was very convenient. Also size and design for some reason once I had it in my hands, was more of what I could just see in the website, the only issue as an area of opportunity was that the inner vessel did not exactly align with the XII marker. Greatings from Chihuahua, Mex."

My new favorite every day casual watch

"The colors are very unique and have sparked some comments and interest from others. For a diver the watch has a thin profile and is light on the wrist, which is one of my favorite things about it. The band is comfortable and the clasp is secure. The lume is bright and responsive also."

Beyond Satisfied

"The sunbleached Seafarer is a beautiful watch. The combo of salmon dial and faded blue internal bezel is just *chef’s kiss*. Quality is good, though the first Seafarer I ordered had a movement issue. Traska replaced it quickly and the replacement has no issues. Timekeeping within +/-8 seconds. The bracelet is beyond comfortable. Overall, you’re getting a lot of bang for your buck with a Traska."

Links and Bezels

"When I first received this Seafarer, I liked the color and how it looked with the orange and the blue rotating bezel. I wasn't sure I wanted to keep it. For a week, I didn't take the packaging off, kept it in its box to take another look another day, maybe my attitude may change the next few days. With the full set of links still on the bracelet, I put it on my wrist at work and at home. I wanted to see how it looked under the lighting conditions that I frequent the most. I kept blasting it with a black-light to get it to glow and pretty surprised how bright the lume is. After a week and a half, I said "It doesn't look bad in these lighting conditions and the polishing is pretty dialed, and the internal rotating bezel was pretty nice to have." So I took the packaging off. Here's the part why this review got 4 stars. Upon resizing the bracelet and taking the packaging off the bracelet (now unreturnable condition), I noticed several bracelet screws were gritty when backing out from the links, one was even rusted out and slightly bent (which took some time to get out of the link). Eventually, I got the screw out without stripping anything. Also, the fully articulating links felt cheap and sounded squeaky. The pip on the rotating bezel is slightly small and really difficult to see during normal lighting conditions and even less legible in darker lighting conditions. Rant over. Now I'm 20 days into ownership. The screw that was rusted was thrown away because after resizing the bracelet, I had a bunch of good ones left over. As for the squeaky bracelet, that's COMPLETELY gone. Either my body oils got in and lubricated it or just wearing the watch, as it was intended to, broke it in. Working in an office environment, this Seafarer looks really nice and it's not too flashy as I don't want my watches to scream "Look at me, please." The dual crown looks pretty nice and keep the symmetry. Next steps for this watch is Loctite the screws which don't reach end-to-end on this bracelet. So I'll need to be careful when applying this stuff. Hope this helps if you're considering buying a Seafarer. It was a bag of mixed feeling but eventually it all works out."
