Commuter 34 Meteorite

Sale price$785.00 USD

A meteorite as old as planet Earth itself crashed down by a river in Scandinavia and lay undiscovered for over one million years. Before the rock entered the atmosphere, it cooled in the vacuum of space, resulting in an exquisite pattern of equilateral triangles that cannot be replicated. Every dial is unique. A limited-edition twist on the quintessential do-anything, go-anywhere watch, the Meteorite Commuter is where the everyday meets the eternal.

All of our watches are made from 316L surgical-grade stainless steel. This typically measures 200HV on the Vickers hardness scale; however, after our signature hardening treatment is applied, we are able to achieve a hardness rating of almost 1200HV. With this additional protection against the typical scratches and swirls that otherwise occur all too often during the rigors of everyday life, you can wear our watches without worry, using them like the robust tools they’re intended to be.

Cut from synthetic sapphire and measuring 9/10 on the Mohs hardness scale, the Commuter’s crystal is virtually impervious to scratches. Colloquially referred to as a “box style” crystal, its design is reminiscent of the plexiglass crystals that graced watches from a bygone era. This particular sapphire crystal also boasts a thick layer of clear anti-reflective coating on the underside — eliminating glare for easy reading even under direct sunlight.

Before entering Earth’s atmosphere, the Muonionalusta meteorite cooled in the vacuum of space, resulting in an exquisite configuration of equilateral triangles known as the Widmanstätten pattern. This pattern exists only in nature and cannot be replicated. Made from a piece of the 4.5 billion-year-old Muonionalusta meteorite, every dial is unique. The faceted hour markers are meticulously filled with BGW9 Swiss Made Super-LumiNova and then delicately applied by hand with maximum precision.

The multi-faceted diamond-cut hands slope up on either side and then taper off to a flat plane with brushed finishing, creating a subtle visual effect that is pleasing even when not consciously registered. Filled with Swiss Made BGW9 Super-LumiNova, the strong luminescence makes for easy reading even in dim light.

Understated yet robust, the Commuter sports a scratch-resistant case hewn from surgical-grade 316L hardened stainless steel. Serving as a testament to our commitment to the smallest of details, you’ll enjoy observing the way light dances around the polished chamfers that highlight the transitions in finishes. The case’s design is further elevated by the ever so slightly convex nature of the mirror polished mid-case, with sides that bulge out just enough for the discerning wearer to appreciate how every detail has been meticulously considered.

The fixed bezel features two complimentary brushing techniques. Sunburst brushing on the top gently teases the eye, while the mirror polished sides offer a distinctive finish that matches the overall refined aesthetic.

The crown screws down snugly into the side of the case, upholding the integrity of the 100 meter depth rating. A high-polished chamfer separates the coin-edged portion from the embossed TRASKA logo on the outermost surface.

Automatically wound by the motion of the wearer, the Japanese Made Miyota 9039 caliber oscillates at 28,800 beats per hour and will keep on ticking for decades. A 24 jeweled, two step, hand-windable movement with hacking, the 9039 is a true no-date movement. Introduced by the Japanese firm as an alternative to the Swiss Made ETA-2824, one could argue that the high-beat 9039 caliber is actually technologically superior to its Swiss counterpart thanks to its 42 hour power reserve and slimmer profile.

All of our movements are regulated in four positions for enhanced timekeeping tolerances. This process involves manually adjusting the length of the mechanical movement’s hairspring, fine-tuning it to keep even better time than what their manufacturer advertises. After regulation in four positions, the 9 series will typically run between -10 to +20 seconds a day.

Forged from 316L stainless steel and tapering from 19mm to 15mm, the bracelet’s solid and fully articulating links echo designs from the Swiss bracelet purveyor Gay Frères. Made with a rigorous lifestyle in mind, the robust bracelet has undergone the same proprietary hardening process as the case. Precisely machined from stainless steel, the buckle exhibits polished chamfers on either side. The inside of the clasp is painstakingly hand polished with a perlage finish — because even the smallest of details matter. The buckle’s five micro-adjustments and the removable link’s large flat head screws allow the bracelet to be sized to your exact liking with ease.

Our genuine leather travel case stays true to the utilitarian nature of the TRASKA brand. We value form; but not at the expense of function.
